ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda Toothpaste

Clinical studies prove that ARM & HAMMER® Advance White® Brilliant Sparkle® Baking Soda Toothpaste gently removes up to 5x more plaque in hard-to-reach places.* It may surprise some professionals to learn that baking soda is actually the least abrasive material for cleaning teeth.* That's why it's always been considered such a healthy choice in oral care. By dissolving into fine particles, baking soda gets into areas deep between teeth and along the gum line that other toothpastes can't reach. It also penetrates into the tiny crevices in tooth enamel to dissolve intrinsic stains. Baking soda in toothpaste not only has ample scientific support, it has a proven track record. As the makers of ARM & HAMMER® toothpaste, we've been pro-baking soda for over 160 years. Today, dental professionals are realizing that baking soda remains a near-perfect ingredient for toothpaste because of its biological compatability, ubiquitous nature and especially its low abrasivity.1

Low Abrasivity

Over the years, people have mistakenly concluded that baking soda is highly abrasive. It’s true that patients may perceive a slightly gritty texture in toothpastes with baking soda, but the fact is, baking soda crystals are soft and won’t scratch tooth enamel. Baking soda is a mild polishing agent which removes superficial stains. When mixed with water, much of baking soda breaks down into microscopic particles that get into areas of tooth enamel other toothpastes can't reach. These baking soda particles then dissolve deeper stains. Bottom line: Studies prove baking soda is actually the least abrasive polishing agent4 as well as highly soluble in water, making it gentle on enamel, dentin and soft tissue.5,6,7

Deep Cleaning for Plaque and Stain Removal1,2

Brushing with ARM & HAMMER® Toothpaste has been proven to be highly effective for removing up to 5x more plaque1 in hard to reach places.* And since baking soda is a natural buffer, it helps maintain the mouth’s natural pH level as it neutralizes food acids, even after brushing.2

Whiter Teeth With Low Abrasion

Toothpastes with baking soda have the ability to remove plaque and everyday stains with low abrasion, helping keep teeth whiter and brighter.1 They are gentle enough to be used in conjunction with bleaching procedures to help patients maintain their white smiles.

Oral Malodor

Bad breath can be a major source of concern for patients. Baking soda has been clinically proven to provide effective and lasting improvements in oral malodor, by neutralizing the Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSCs) that cause bad breath. Toothpastes with baking soda provide lasting protection against bad breath—even in patients whose baseline malodor was strong.1

Removes 70% More Hard-to-Reach Plaque

In a clinical study comparing the dual-action head design of Spinbrush® Pro Series to two leading advanced-design manual brushes, Spinbrush® Pro Series Battery-Powered Toothbrushes removed 70% more hard-to-reach plaque.1 As the clinical evidence mounts that power toothbrushes have the potential to deliver superior plaque removal, dental professionals are increasingly recommending power toothbrushes for all segments of their patient base. And as a consumer study showed, they’ll appreciate your recommendation of Spinbrush®.

Performance For an Affordable Price

Spinbrush® Battery-Powered Toothbrushes cost just a few dollars more than manual toothbrushes and a fraction of the price of many other power toothbrushes.* Considering that having healthier teeth and gums requires twice daily, lifelong compliance, the value of providing this kind of performance and price cannot be underestimated.

Spinbrush® Battery-Powered Toothbrushes and the Importance of Power Brushing

The time spent brushing teeth has been positively correlated to the effectiveness of plaque removal. However, while dental professionals recommend patients brush for at least 2 minutes, their actual brushing time has been reported at less than a minute, and frequently less than 30 seconds. 1 Providing extra help in the form of an oscillating power toothbrush has been proven to provide significant benefits over manual toothbrushing.*2
